Windows 10 Pro factory reset laptop not recognising backup on external hard

I had issues with my laptop so while under warranty I sent it in for a repair and backed up it to an empty external hard drive using the ‘back up now’ on the pc.

The external hard drive is showing the backup but when I go to ‘Restore my files’ > Restore Files (Advanced) > ‘Select the backup that you want to restore files from’ it does not show the backup. I tried doing a new backup of the empty pc and it shows that copy.

My theory is that I didn’t have Windows 10 Pro, just Windows 10 on it as it looks a little different (first noticeable thing is the massive battery charging logo at bottom of screen).

Does anyone have any idea how to get my pc to recognise the backup?

It’s not really clear what backup tool you used.

If it happened to be the Windows 7 backup utility, still present in Windows 10, I think I have to agree what https://www.computerworld.com/article/3655693/how-to-make-image-backup-windows-10-windows-11.html writes about it: don’t use it.

Not really helpful, I’m afraid.

If the drive hasn’t been assigned one, this will result in it being inaccessible due to Windows not recognizing the external hard drive. This can easily be fixed by assigning a drive letter or changing the existing one. Right-click Start and click Disk Management. Right-click on your external hard drive and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.

Some time this type of issue happened. As window 10 is very hectic in taking up the old backup. Buy you need to do a fresh window after repairing. Same happened with us and we exported all the data from plotagon story from laptop but after repairing the laptop was not showing the restore backup option. Then we did fresh window so after that it showed the option. You could try it on your own risk.
