Question

Windows 10 won't shut down

By jamesmehraa ·
It's been a while I'm having this problem. When I shut down my laptop, the screen goes black but the processor does not stop working. I need to press and hold laptop power button for 5-6 sec to it shuts down. I don't know what is the cause of it, any solution is appreciated.

Thanks for your time in advance.

Check System in Event Viewer

by galdunate In reply to Windows 10 won't shut dow ...

The problem is normally a program that stucks and does not let the O/S to perform an orderly close of the outstanding processes. If that’s the case, it will show in the Event Viewer console, both in the System and/or Application event lists. Check them both as a starting point in problem determination (Right-click the Start icon, then left-click on the Event Viewer line)

Windows 10 won't shut down

Systems usually won't shut down because of some apps are not closed properly that could be still running while you hit the shut down button. You can try closing the computer through command prompt or you can disable fast startup through the control panel. Other reasons could also be possible. The best thing to do in order to resolve the issue is to repair windows system files. Also, keep up with the latest Windows 10 update.
