Just bought laptop (Lenovo Ideapad) with windows 11 in S Mode and cannot get rid of password or PIN on sign in. I have been through the procedures in Account to cancel these and restarted but it still insists on asking for password or pin. Does anyone know if S Mode forces user to sign in with password or PIN?

Do you login with a Microsoft account or a local account? It makes some sense that using a Microsoft account requires a password.

I’m logging in with a Microsoft account as this is what it led me to.

Yes, that’s what Microsoft wants you to use.
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-set-up-local-account-windows-11-pro/ tells how to set up a local account. Worth a try, isn’t it?
And you can change the password to nothing. Then it won’t ask for it it when logging in.
Why do you need S mode? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/switching-out-of-s-mode-in-windows-4f56d9be-99ec-6983-119f-031bfb28a307#WindowsVersion=Windows_11 tells how to remove it.

All fixed. Took it out of S Mode (still asked for password), created a Local Account User with blank password and all OK. Thanks everybody.

Open the Settings by pressing Windows + I key.
Click on the Privacy & Security option in the left panel.
Then scroll down the content and tap on the Activation option in the right side of the window. …
Click Go to the Store button to continue.
Then you will be taken to the Switch out of S mode page. You can turn off S mode by clicking the Get button.
