Windows 2000 default printer

By twhite ·
I work in a School where each classroom has about 4 workstations. One workstation is used as a print server for that room. I finally figured out how to install a shared printer on a Win2K machine so that all users who logon get the same default printer.
1. Navigate to Start/Settings/Printers
2. Double click Add Printer: The Add Printer Wizard starts
3. Click Next: Local or Network window appears
4. Select Local Printer, unselect Auto Detect Plug And Play Printer
5. Click Next: Select Printer Port window appears
6. Select Create A New Port
7. Under Type, select Local Port
8. Click Next: Port Name window appears
9. Enter \\printServerName\printerSharedName (ie \\workstation1\hp842c)
10. Click OK
11. Finish printer installation asusual
Hope this helps someone.
