Windows 2000 Will Not Shutdown

By lacooke ·
Everytime I attempt to shutdown my Windows 2000 Professional computer it reboots instead. This does NOT happen in Safe Mode. The Event Log shows that there has been a problem starting on or around 5/17/2004, but since my computer stays on I did not notice it until now. Event Log error message is:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0x804f7c62, 0x00000000, 0x00000004). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini080304-08.dmp.

Any ideas or suggestions before I reload Windows?

Right-Click on My Computer.
Select Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab.
Select "Startup and Recovery".
Deselect "Automatically reboot".

That should enable you to shut the machine down.
However, you will need to resolve the underlying cause of the problem eventually... depending on what that is, you may need to reinstall the OS anyway.

Good Luck.
