Windows 8 Pro - Bluetooth & Wifi Buttons

By akbimal ·
On Windows 8 pro --> pc settings --> wireless --> wireless devices: wifi = on & bluetooth = on is controlled by which service? Reason for asking is my laptop on reboot does not switch on the bluetooth. I have to manually switch it on.

My PC has Microsoft Windows Version 6.2 (Build 9200) is a Dell Inspiron 1440 Laptop and am using Dell BT 5 Button Travel Mouse (a bluetooth mouse)

Thanks, Bimal

This is to save Battery Power from being wasted and allow you to use the Notebook longer when It is running on Battery.

You need to remember that Notebooks are sold as Portable Devices and are expected to be moved around not sat on a desk and used like a Desktop.

All of the NB's I've ever dealt with required that their WiFi and Bluetooth needed to be turned on by the user not switched on by default leaving the unit exposed to the potential to Hack them and waste battery power. Notebooks are not Tablets or Cell Phones which are Unsecured by default and require user intervention to make partially secure.

I do not believe that it's possible to have the device turn it's Wireless devices on by default but you can check the Owners Manual for any directions here guide_en-us.pdf

edited to add TR is currently breaking the Links so you'll need to copy the entire link and paste it into a Web Browsers address bar for things to take you to the User Manual

Windows 8 Pro - Bluetooth & Wifi Buttons

by akbimal In reply to Yep that's right it's wha ...

Thank you. But this problem has occurred recently. My Dell Inspiron 1440 Laptop had come with Win 7 x64 Home Premium. I upgraded it to Win 8 Pro x64. After this upgrade the bluetooth was not working but found a way to get it to work after searching on the internet. At that time I was able to install the WIDCOMM Bluetooth software that dell gives for Win 7 x64. For some reason my bluetooth software was not working and I had to uninstall the drivers and reinstall it again. Whenever I have tried to reinstall the WIDCOMM Bluetooth software in compatibility mode now, it is not installing and this is when I started observing this problem of the bluetooth not switching on after a restart. The software's I believe being used for my bluetooth mouse are:

Name: Miscorsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center v2.1.177.0
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
Location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center\

Name: Quickset64 v9.6.6
Publisher: Dell Inc.
Location: C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\

Name: SetPoint v4.80
Publisher: Logitech
Location: C:\Program Files\SetPoint\

Would this information help? Let me know the bluetooth services to look for and I could list the status of each too ... if it would help

Thanks, Bimal
