Windows 98 Client to Windows Server 2003

By AnthonyMCSE ·
I had read in a post that Windows 98 clients can not connect to Windows Server 2003. Is this true? Windows Server 2000 has a Network disk you were supposed to create and install on Windows 98. Does Windows Server 2003 also have this feature?

problem with logon to domain with 98

by fred In reply to Windows 98 Client to Wind ...

the problem is that the 98 uses a different method of authentication than other 2000+ clients. it acctually takes longer to authenticate with 2003 than it did with 2000. Therefore, 98 will return an authentication failure message.

I had to goaround this by pressing and holding down the enter key until it authenticats. I only have this problem every so often, but it is a pain.

Microsoft also has an article that talks about the DNS Settings but that did not help me. If I remember correctly, they also have a fix for 98SE.
