windows desktop wallpaper

i've installed a network seat of autocad on my machine and now when i boot up i get a dialogue box stating "windows is setting up the following" (doesn't tell or show me what). then i get the ugly compaq logo for desktop wallpaper. i can change it, but when i reboot it reverts back to the compaq logo again! any ideas?

Try this free utility, Startup Cop. It will analyze your system, tell you about everything that runs at startup, and allow you to disable it.

(Delete any spaces when you paste inthat URL to your browser.)

That's because you didn't delete the space! TechRepublic tends to insert spaces in pasted text. There should be no space between ...ut1808.0 and 01.html

Let's try again and see where the space goes:

OK, there's a space again between ...08.0 and 01.html, so copy and paste into your browser and delete the space before clicking 'go".

Yes, I did all that...I can get to the download page, but when I go to d/l the program, I get "We're sorry, but we were unable to find the page you requested."

Here's another thought: if you're running Win 98, run msconfig and check the Startup tab. You could uncheck unfamiliar things one at a time until the problem gies away.
