    Windows desktop will not refresh automat

    Hello, still looking for an answer here. This is a tough problem. If I unzip or download files to the desktop, they don’t appear unless I hit F5 and manually refresh the view. Sometimes I even have to open File Explorer and close it then hit F5 to refresh. The PC has a Creative Labs TNT 2 Ultra video card. Even after a fresh format and reinstall of Windows 98 SE the problem persists. Please help. I’ve looked everywhere and tried everything I could think of!

      Try the latest video drivers for your card. If that still produces the problem, step back to a previous version and gve that a try. You can also try reloading IE with all service packs. IE is very tightly integrated into the user interface, and it might give you some results.

      I wonder if this is sometihng as simple as setting auto-arrange on the desktop.

      If anything, I would open poledit and disable all of the custom folders, namely in this case, the desktop. Also, maybe updateing the busmaster drivers from via or intel (depending on the chipset) may make your video card react better. I know the via’s have some wierd issues on newer machines if the default drivers from 98 are used isntead of the updated ones from their site.

      If you’re suspecting the video card, my only question would be, have you tried it as a plain ole VGA or PCI compatable VGA.

      I’m not running the 98SE, but I did have a strange problem with missing icons awhile back. The service pack for 98 seemed to fix those problems.

      Anyway, have you tried the windows update site to see if they have some updates for 98SE?
