Windows Explorer in win98 slow & page er

I use windows 98 on a P2 laptop (mircopoint alteza). My windows explorer is very slow. I don’t have virusses and I cleanup and defragmentate regularly. In system monitor (Sysmon) i noticed that when i accesed a folder in the explorer a lot of “page errors” and “cache missers” were found. Could these be related to the slow behaviour? And what can I do about it?
