Windows is shutting down

I wonder why sometimes XP or Win98 freezes on "WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN " ?

Is there a fault in any version of windows to cause that?

I have seen this problem on machines running 98 and xp.

Seriously, there are a number of causes for shutdown problems.

Usually, the issue is related to hardware and drivers.

Video driver problems are the number 1 cause of shut down problems.

Then, you have services that lock instead of shutting down.

My Windows ME has been intermittently failing to shut down. At the website you gave, I quickly found some sound advice. Apparently shutdown problems are included under "Troubleshooting" in the Help file on the OS.
