Windows Live Contacts missing after Essentials 2009 upgrade

by jeremysjunk . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

Last week I was prompted to upgrade my Windows Live software (with Live Essentials (file name “wlsetup-custom.exe”)) which I did. When I tried to access either Live Mail or Messenger, I got the following error:

“Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

I tried rebooting but still got the same error. After doing a google search I found a fix which required deleting the WLDLOG.DLL file. This seemed to fix the problem HOWEVER, I have now lost ALL my contacts. The contacts are still there when I log onto my hotmail account but they are not sync’ing with the Live client software on my PC. Does anyone know how to get them to sync up again.

Windows Messenger also does not log in since the upgrade. After deleting the WLDLOG.DLL file, it now gets an error 81000306 when trying to sign in. Any suggestions?

I’m running Win XP PRO.

Thanks

JZ
