Windows ME to NT 4?

By bytj ·
I have a machine installed with Widnows Me. But when I insert the NT server DC to install NT4.0 server. It just skipped the installation. Why's that?
Thanks.

Windows ME to NT 4?

If you have Windows ME set up with a FAT32 partition, NT4 cannot be installed over it. You will need to do a clean install.

Hope that helps,

If #1 is correct (and probably is), you can convert the partition to FAT16 (assuming disk space and such will allow), Install NT 4, then convert to NTFS (or whatever). Partition Magic will allow you to do the conversions. Also let you re-partitionand move applications if disk size is too large for FAT.

I am not sure that you would want to install NT Server on top of anything except a prior version of NT Server (but I don't do servers so that is just a 'not so sure I would do that' feeling). While it may work, you may spend the rest of the year resolving issues related to that.

A clean install is probably a better way to go, backup data files, reinstall applications after NT OS done.

Is there a Win ME Server version?
