Windows Messenger ? MSN Messenger

By Dr.Jackson ·
Is Windows Messenger the same program as MSN Messenger? When I'm NOT signed in on MSN Messenger the Windows Messenger sometimes is. It doesn't show that it is signed in but I still get people wanting to chat. Is there a way to shut Windows Messenger completely off and still have MSN Messenger? Thanks and have a great Holiday.

depends on what operating system but I'll assume it's Windows XP. There are actually 2 and they are not the same. Windows XP comes with Windows Messenger built in and then there is MSN Messenger. To disable Windows messenger that is built into Windows XP navigate to control panel, performance & maintenance, administrative tools, services. double click on services. Scroll down to messenger. right click and choose properties. On the properties page in start up type choose disable. Click ok. Close out all open windows and then reboot your computer.

Note: For MSN messenger, verify that it is set to NOT automatically log you on when you start your computer. This doesn't have any effect on Windows Messenger but just to ensure that it's not automatically logging you in.
