Windows Messenger w/ 2000 and XP

How can I make Windows 2000 and Windows XP compatible while using Windows Messenger?
I am trying setup a video conversation between two machines one is running 2000 and the other is running XP. But everytime I send an invitation the Windows 2000 machine says that it can not run with XP. How do I fix this?
