    windows recent folder

    by thatdarncat3221 ·

I’ve looked on the internet and google won’t give me an answer to this: will deleting files in the recent folder delete the source files?

Let’s say you have a folder open in Windows File Explorer.

You can right click on the object and look at its properties. If it’s a link then deleting the link does not delete the actual file.

-> I can’t find a recent folder in my Windows 10 when I use Windows File Explorer. How did you get there?

In your Windows profile it’s a junction; you can see it with dir /a:h .

It points to a folder called “c:\users\\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\recently opened files” in File Explorer. With me, it contains 151 shortcuts, the oldest one being 6 weeks old. Apparently “recent” is defined as “in the last 6 weeks”.
