Windows Restore - no longer restores

One of my clients is have difficulties restoring WXP to an earlier date to reverse some changes she made to the registry.
Can anyone direct me as to how to correct this problem?
Don't want to have to back up here files and docs. and reinstall. Please Help!

To do a Sytem Restore, you need Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore and follow the instruction.
If the dates are greyed out, it means the System Restore feature had been turned off. To check it, My computer (right click) | properties | System Restore. If the checkbox is checked, the System Restore had been turned off. Your best remedy then is to boot with "Last known good configuration" .

If the above does not work, you have three options:
1). Registry editing (regedit) and undo what your client did.
2). Reinstall Windows on top of the current one.
3). Install Windows from scratch.
