Windows update and bluetooth

By whatmeworry2011 ·
Hi techies,

I have two problems for which I seek your advise.
The first is that Windows is not updating (Automatic Update is on).
I also tried to do it manually. Nada. I got this error message "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem."
The second is that I am unable to activate bluetooth. I have tried a
number of things, including "bthprops" command but to no avail.
My system configuration is:

First thing I would do

is install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. It's been awhile, but I seem to remember
some fixes for bluetooth problems included in SP3. Then, you may need to reinstall
your bluetooth device and drivers. Support for SP2 has already ended, which may
explain why automatic update is no longer functional.

Thanks Purple, but I'll try that as the last option. It's too esoteric for me.

esoteric? If slipstreaming it is too technical for you, maybe just download it on another computer and burn it to cd, then install it on your computer.

I think this may be your only option if you can't install it manually from that pc. You could also consider (as a last resort) backing up your information and reformatting that pc and letting sp3 come down with your updates after reinstallation.

SP3 is a must

by r_widell In reply to Windows update and blueto ...

Microsoft no longer supports SP2 (it's been a few years now), so there are NO updates available for XP-SP2.

XP-SP3 will be supported until April 2014(IIRC).

Service Pack 3 Download

by TheChas In reply to Windows update and blueto ...

As you don't get any updates listed, you may have a worm or virus that is blocking the update function.

On a different computer, download and burn to a CD the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool.
(remove the space between . and com to make the links work) com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16

Then visit the Microsoft Fix It page and run the fix for Microsoft Update. com/Portal/WhyFixIt#Relevant

Then download your choice of the ISO image or the runtime for Service Pack 3.

ISO com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25129

Run Time com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24

Make sure to update your anti-virus software when you have installed the updates.
