Windows update does not work

By PC-Doc ·
When I select microsoft windows update the W2K pro computer returns a blank page on windows IE.

This has occured after installing Nortons 2003 virus program.
Other problems are also occuring, Peachtree program locks up after a script error dialog box is displayed and the only way to recover is us task manager to halt program.
One person has tried to remove the Norton virus program but can't find it now.

Try this step. Go to a dos prompt c CD:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IE Uninstall and then run the following, w2kexcp.exe /u This will take your IE browser back to the previous version, test to see if you can go to the update site then. If so, great, re-install the latest IE. If not, check for the new Virus called mydoom on your machine. Make sure you have the latest Virus definition updates. If you have the virus, you will need to clean it up.

Symantec's web site has an entire step by step process for uninstalling their antivirus program. They have a tool Rnav2003.exe to remove certain parts of their program that are not removed during the uninstall and/or using Windows add/remove program. This tool removed the nav program that is protected.

What really is causing your problem is Autoprotect script blocking.

Visit http://www.symantec.com home/small business FAQ web and you'll find most of what you need to get everything working

It sound like you are having problems with your firewall blocking it. Disable your firewall and try again if this works than you will know that there is a setting in you r firewall preventing you from downloading.

Had the same problem I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall because my Norton install had become corrupt

This has occured when IE has become corrupted.

Try uninstalling IE then reinstall IE 6 or the latest version of IE. This has resolved this problem for me on all occurences.
