Windows Vista & Lexmark X75 All-in-one printer

By ttbsjbgd ·
Anyone know where I can get a Vista driver for my Lexmark x75 printer? I have contacted Lexmark USA and they said to buy another printer. This is not an option for us. Thanks for your help.

You will get the same advise from us....

If the printer isn't Vista compatible and the manufacturer themselves say to get another printer, probably because they don't have Vista drivers for it, then you're stuck with only one option. Get another printer.

But a DIFFERENT printer.

Not a Lexmark. I junked the x75 I had because it was nothing but trouble.

Buy an HP. Lexmark was the original "lets chip our computers and screw the scustomers" manufacturer.

You CAN run your printer in Vista. Here is how...

If you have the printer icon on your computer do this:
Right click on the icon and select "properties > compatibility", then select "run this program in compatibility mode", and select what flavour of Windows Operating System you need to run this under. Your printer monitor will not work this way, I:E: the ink and paper levels animation. If you have no Icon, then re-install the printer drivers (or copy the disk onto your desktop) and follow the instructions as laid out above.
Hope this helps you.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

If you really need to retain this printer and use it with Vista you can also employ a programmer and get then to write new Printer Drivers for you. This is what used to happen whenever a new mainframe was delivered to someplace they had to get the on Staff programmers to completely rewrite all of the existing applications and services that they ran.

However it would be far cheaper to just buy a new printer as this is one of the Hidden Upgrade Costs to Vista.

While you may be able to get it to work in Comparability Mode it will be at best unreliable and will cost you far more in lost time that what the cost of a new printer is. Anyway as this is a All in One you may find that other things like the scanner do not work like this it will not just be the notifications for the Ink Tanks and printing there will be other things that no longer work correctly or do it in the background so you do not know what is currently happening.

You really should replace the printer as it's the most economic alternative available to you here.

Here's a less-than-glowing PC Pro review of the X75 from 2003 ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Windows Vista & Lexmark X ...

For the small amount you'd have to shell out for something that's not only brand new, but also something that gets a glowing review - it seems like a small price to pay and the most sensible course of action.
