    WIndows XP Default Administrator Problems

    Locked

    by silver surfer2 ·

Running Windows XP Media Center Ver 2002, I have been using the default admin account exclusively on my PC for a couple of years now. As such, alll my email accounts, data files, music, videos, photos, etc are stored under that account. I recently decided to create an account of r my kids, but the system would not allow this, unless I created an admininstrator account, which I did. I then created the account for my kids.

Well as it turns out, now that I have this new admin account, I can’t get back into the default admin account that I had been using, and where all my data files are stored. I can see the administrator directory under the ‘c:/documents and settings’, but if I try to go into it, I get an error box saying ‘access denied’. I have even tried to access the file in the cmd propmt window, but I get the same error message ‘access denied’

THere must be a way to access the data and the account, but I have been unsuccessful in finding it. Can anyone help?

      Once you create another account…

The option to log in as default administrator only shows up if you boot into safe mode. Boot your PC into safe mode, log in as the administrator and move the files you are trying access into the folder for your new admin account.

For future reference you should post questions in the question section as opposed to the discussion section. You will likely have better luck with responses.

      Cheers!

That helped. It did work, but I still had problems accessing my outlook personal folders and contacts.

What i have done is a system restore to get back to before I created the accounts. I will now move over to the questions section to ask how I can get my email accounts to be accessible by my new account.

      THANKS again!!!
