Windows-XP Dilemma

By www.daknaben ·
Please help:
Trying to uninstall programs using Add/Remove in Control Panel just doesn't work in my windows-xp home edition. It gives this error:
"Windows Installer service failled to start;
contact support personnel."

What could be a possible solution?

Thanks, Krada.

You can download and reinstall Windows Installer from Microsoft's site.

There is a Service called Windows Installer that is usually off unless you need to install something. Then it is turned on before the install starts.

So, try and start Windows Installer service before you open the Add/Remove Programs applet. Then see if you can uninstall programs.

To start the service, open Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Find Windows Installer and STart it.

hope this helps
