Windows XP freezes when connecting Video camera to USB 2.0

I hope someone can help me. I have a P3 1.0 GHz laptop with Win. XP SP2 on it. It didn’t have any USB 2 ports on it so I installed a PCMIA card with 3 usb ports. The card installs fine, but when I connect my video camera XP freezes while installing the drivers. Both the card and camera works on another laptop….
