Windows XP Home Version Problems

I work for an engineering company running a Windows NT Server using Windows 98 operating system. The problem is that we just purchased a Dell laptop with Windows XP Home Version installed. We setup the laptop for the network but it is telling us that access is denied to some of the shared resources. Is there anything we can do, or are we just missing the obvious.
