Windows XP keeps asking for th eSONY DVCR Driver

By Chief-Tiff ·
For some strange reason, I can no longer use my firewire connection to download digital footage from my Sony Handycam. I have changed no settings from when I used it last but it now refuses to work.
I downloaded the latest driver from Sony and re-installed it. XP recognises that I have Sony camera when I connect it but refuses to load th edriver, even when I point it to the location.
What can I do?

Open the Device Manager and look for any Yellow Marks there

This indicates a problem which may be anything from a Corrupt Driver to a Resource Issue occurring. To get to the Device Manager left click on Start then Control Panel then when the Control Panel Opens switch to Classic View if it is not already that way and when it opens in Classic View left click on Administrative Tools then when the Next Window opens left click on Computer Management and when the next window opens in the left pane select Device Manager.

If there is a problem there right click on the offending item and select Properties and look through the various Tabs for a place to change the Resources being used.

Also while you may not have deliberately installed any new software what about Windows Updates have you got these set to Auto Update. Quite often these can break existing products so you may have to set about removing any that where applied since you last used this Device.

Also what excuse is Windows giving for Refusing to load the Driver? If it is saying that it is already installed this is perfectly normal.

Just remember that any errors may not be confined to the Firewire Device or tot he Sony Camera if you have a Plug In Daughter Card for the Firewire it could be another Device on the M'Board sharing the same resources with the Firewire card preventing it from working correctly.
