I had a customer call me yesterday with a problem with his XP Pro machine. When he logged on, he got the message stating that his user profile could not be found and that windows was loading a temp profile. So I created a new profile and copied all of his files, hidden and system, to his new profile and deleted the old profile. This worked fine for the first issue. I then tried to run updates and it found the IE7 update and started to set a restore point. When it does this, the system just shuts down and restarts. So I go in and turn off the system restore feature and the update downloads and starts to intall, but near the end of the update the system justs goes black and the system restarts. It seems to act normally with all other software.
