Windows XP profile recovery

By pdxgrrl ·
When I boot my computer and it tries to access my profile I am receiving a "error performing inpage operation" message and it brings up a temporary file instead.

Is this fixable and if so how do I fix it?

I think you can try using system restore (if you have it turned on):
Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab to see if its on. If it is you can refer to this page for instructions:

Along with Jacky Howe's reply, the following webpage details quite extensively how to recover a profile.
