Automatic Reboot

by timwalsh In reply to Windows XP reboots in 10 ...

By default, XP is configured to automatically reboot whenever it experiences a sytem failure.

The first thing to do is to change the default. Go to Control Panel | System properties | Advanced tab | Startup and Recovery settings. Uncheck the box labeled "Automatically restart" in the System Failure section.

This will not solve the problem that causes the reboot, but it will allow you see the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) that is generated when your system crashes. On the BSOD (usually the first two lines), you should get information that will help you figure out what the problem is.

Also look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for any error messages that might further explain what is causing the crashes.

Hope this helps.
