Windows XP Strange Right Click function

By info ·
HI all

windows XP SP2.

Ive suddenly started have problems when i right click on a file. Nothing crash or anything like that (I've seen that problem reported elsewhere). whats happening is this.

I right click on a folder and all the normal and extra context functions show up. I right click on a file and i only get the standard windows options. ie no compression options from winrar or any of the other things i have that normally show up when i right click a file. as i've said, when i right click a folder everything seems ok

any ideas?

I think ive got you an answer...

I hope your comfortable with the registry. If you go into HKCR\*\shellex\contextmenuhandlers in here should be a list of options that will be in your right click menu.

You should have things in here like: open with, winrar, offline files and the like.

Ive checked with a couple of other pcs (Windows XP SP2) and all the values seem to be the same, so im gonna give you the data value i have in there just in case yours is missing.

Type: REG_SZ
Data Value: {09799AFB-AD67-11d1-ABCD-00C04FC30936}

Note the little d in the midst there!

See how you go.
