By BRUKS70 ·
MY COMPUTER WAS GIVING THE ERROR : AS SHOWN BELOW

"ERROR OCCURED WHILE CALLING FUNCTION "BINSTALL" IN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT

I FORMATTED THE MACHINE AND TRIED REINSTALLING WINDOWS 98 BUT DURING THE INSTALLATION THE SAME ERROR KEEPS COMING AGAIN AND AGAIN.

AND FINALLY, WINDOWS GIVES THE MESSAGE "ERROR IN REGISTRY, WINDOWS WILL REPAIR IT, SO SYSTEM WILL BE SHUTDOWN NOW.

EACH TIME , IT REPAIRS THE REGISTRY, AGAIN THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN WINDOWS STARTSUP.

KINDLY TELL ME, HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM

Error

There seems to be a hardware problem on your system although I could not pinpoint which one. Try replacing the Memory Module for a start.

BTW, have you done the low-level formatting of your harddisk as mentioned above ?

Hardware Problem

Like the first post said, replace the memory first. You might as well upgrade to 128mb, Win 98 is very happy with that amount. If that doesn't fix your trouble, pull all the pci cards except the video card and boot it up. If it starts, replace your cards one at a time until you get to the bad one. Good Luck, Jim D.
