WindowsME shutdown

By Kimmer ·
I purchased a new Toshiba notebook and Windows ME on shutdown gives a blue screen with "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. System halted." and locks there. Windows doesn't shutdown properly and I have to pull out the battery to turn it off. Any suggestions or "patches" available? Searched web and MS site. Programs installed: Adobe Acrobat, a zip/unzip program, Norton system (minus the virus protection - not using net on that one), Iomega 250 zip disk.

After reading the reply "norton"...

After reading the reply "norton"... I?ve began thinking... Norton... Norton is good, just NOT when i comes to WinME... Therefor i recommend Sophos Antiviral for WinME, also to be used on Notebooks... Sophos is availeble on and is FREE, after you?ve recieved a mail from them with password and logon name.
If IT IS norton that does "du-du" in your system, you?ve gotta un-install it and install sophos... otherwise (2 advise) - Re-install your WinME... And make use of the newGREAT feature "Restore-point"!!! IT IS PRICELESS... Thanks to MS...
