Winlogon.exe crashing system in Win2000

I have an IBM Thinkpad a22e running windows 2000 SP2. More often than not the computer crashes after I try to login to my network reporting that winlogon.exe has generated an error. (this happens after I press ctrl-alt-del, and typed in username and password)
After the error has been generated and I click ok, it does it’s little error dump then proceeds to turn off my computer.
This is driving me nuts and the support dept. here at my school doesn’t seem to know any solution for it. Need some help to save the day for multiple PCs.
