winmail.dat

By lm255 ·
Some, not all, email that I receive from a friend that uses Outlook 2000 as her primary email handling software is being rec'd as a winmail.dat file. She is on a network where she works and sends her email. Other people have rec'd email in the same format and can't read it either.

Why is this happening and is there a fix?

This may be going to far, however the Exchange server where the email starts from needs some changes. The administrator needs to go to Exchange System Manager, GLobal Settings, Internet Message Format, double click on * (or the domain they are using), Advanced, change "rich-text format from determined..." to never use. They probably have it on "determine by user". Again, this is where i changed the configs for our similar issue.
