WINS problem with 95 and 98 machines.

By ZDD ·
For some reason this morning all of the users (98 and 95 machines 2000 Pro are fine)on our NT network can log-in but cannot connect to our E-mail Server. You can ping the IP address but it will not resolve the name. I have restored my WINS from Junebut nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks.

Check your network. Are the 2000 Pro machines on the same segment or another? Answer that question and you probably have your solution.

Check to see if DNS is working on these machines. To resolve host names the computer will check DNS and then WINS. If for some reason you can't get to DNS you won't get the name resolved to connect to your e-mail server. Make sure that the WINS and DNS are specified in the DHCP configuration.
