WinUpdate Fails - Do not have Permission

By Cindy - Extraordinary Brat ·
A few new Windows Updates do not install for me. "You do not have permission to make changes to Windows" or something similar.

I manage about 325 systems, and this is occurring on nearly half of them. Our security .inf file is most likely the cause, as the error log file tells me the problem is in sesecurityprivilege.

Anyone else having this problem?

Hi,

Go to the regedit and open the following key...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

changethe value of windowsupdate to 1 instead of 0.

Let me know if you stuck...

Regards,

I didn't find that key where you stated. I think I found the answer though. What I did was enter this into an inf file and install it.

serestoreprivilege = *S-1-5-32-544
sesecurityprivilege = *S-1-5-32-544

Since sesecurityprivilege was the erorr I was getting.
