By duong_h_nguyen ·
I Would like to ask experienced XP user if WinXP Pro supports 3D gaming and if it makes a difference whether it is Fat32 or NTFS is used.
Thank you.

My www.Unreal.com game is fine - on XP with NTFS - Haven't tried Fat32 since computer came with ntfs done already. And on a 1.3GHZ computer with 256RAM, Kick butt spead. So I say yes it is supported for at least my game, you will need to check what you are using. side note it is not my usual "home computer" I was on, but couldn't resist trying out the spead.

I use WinXP Pro for gaming and play Black and White, Red Faction, Max Payne, and a bunch of other games. XP is optimized for gaming because it uses a new version of Direct X (8.1) and other enhancements. The following article explains some of the new features:

As for your Fat32 vs. NTFS, I recommend Fat32 because it is less of a hassle and some software does not run on NTFS. Unless you really need protection for your files then I definitely recommend Fat32. Remember you can always convert a FAT32 filesystem to NTFS but it DOES NOT convert the other way around. If you really want NTFS then I suggest making a new separate partition for it--I have 2 FAT32 filesystems(system files and programs) and 1 NTFS(extra secure files). The following article gives more detail:

I play Black and White on an NTFS partition in XP, and I have The Sims on a FAT32 partition and both have worked perfect so far.
