We currently have a client that is sharing a satillite connection to 1 other computer. The computer that is sharing the connection is a high end machine running Windows XP. The computers are connected using a crossover cable. The connection is shared using ICS. For some reason the speed is super fast on the main computer and about 40% slower on the other computer. The other computer is also a highend machine running windows XP. I tested the connection by replacing the ‘other’ computer with my laptop. The speed was slower on my laptop as well. I am measuring the speeds by use of two diff. bandwidth test websites. http://www.bandwidthplace.com and http://www.toast.net .
Ok, so now I download a light-weight proxy server http://www.pppindia.com . I then install it and disable ICS. The connection now shares perefectly, same speed on each computer.
Any ideas on why ICS was slower? Please advise. Thank you.
