winxp sp2 installed but computer still says sp1 is installed

By pchw ·
I was trying to install .net 2.0 sp1 on a machine the other day and it wouldn't install. It said the machine still had sp1. I installed sp2 on it, rebooted, and system properties still says sp1 is installed. I did some research and had no luck finding anything. Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on and how I can get sp2 to REALLY install? Thanks.

Well, to be fair

Both .NET 2.0 and 3.0 are now up to at least SP1 and WinXP is up to SP3 with many folks, I'm sure, still back at SP1. It's no wonder people get confused.
Wait, what did I say?

response to all of you

Not using windows update, using the downloaded file we used to install and push out to all of the other machines, No, I'm not confused about .net and sp, .net 2.0 sp1 requires winxpsp2. I tried installing sp2 the first time remotely and it installed relatively quickly (1/2 hour - doing remote install). But it didn't actually install, despite going through the motions. I tried again and it took FOREVER (about 3 hours), but actually installed this time. I had talked to someone about this who experienced the same problem a while back and was told that it never did install on that particular machine. This happened to me with three machines. I think they blew the dust off of them, then booted them up for the first time in about a year.

Click Start, Run and type winver and press Enter. It will give you all the info that you need about Service Packs. No need to go into the Registry.
