Wireless getting invalid IP

By yousafzai99 ·
My laptop's wireless was working fine few days before. I went to a friends place where 2 routers were working. I tried to connect my laptop with 1 router but it got wrong IP 169.xx.xx.xx. since then it is not connecting with any router even with my own home's router and show invalid IP. While DHCP of my router is working fine because when i connect my laptop through a LAN cable it gets a valid IP of 192.168.xx.xx. I've tried many things like i uninstalled my wireless connection, restarted my laptop tried different things but not working. Is it possible to clear wireless history like i uninstalled wireless connection 7 times and now it is showing Wireless Network Connection 8. Please can anyone provide me solution.

Wireless Networks

Check to see which wireless network your system is attempting to connect with. SOunds like it is still trying to connect to your friend's network and not yours.

Duplicate Wireless Network Names

by LarryD4 In reply to Wireless getting invalid ...

I have had a similar situatiion when I went to a firends house and he was using the default name for his wireless router name, whis was D-Link. I then when to another friends house who had the same router and was usign the same default name.

The Laptop would not connect until I removed the config from the wirless settings.

Look for the config list for the wireless networks you have connected to and clear them all.

If you are using windows go to the window "View Available Wireless Networks" then click on advanced settings in the botton left corner. From the window that comes up click on Wireless networks and look at the "Preferred Network" list. I would clear it all out and try connecting again.

If you use the utility that came with your wireless card you will need to refer to that specific tool to do this.
