Word 2000/2002 Network File Saving

By FANCOMS ·
The problem is with saving Word files to a Netware share. Users are able to save once but after opening the file off the share and editing it, users are unable to save the changes made. The error states "Word does not have permission to save to G:\users\mnb".

Now it seems simple enough but the user has appropriate permissions on the Netware server, the file save works if I log the user in to another machine, Excel works, the files can be saved locally.

All computers are Win2000. The office version is either 2000 or XP. The users having this problem all have new Win2000 machines. It is affecting only 4 users (about 5% of total users). Netware version 4.11.

I have checked all Word settings under Options against machines that are working and found no differences.

Any ideas?

You didn't mention the service pack loaded on the NetWare 4.11, it should be 9 (TID #: 2957945), but if it isn't 9 you need to apply at least the MIXMODFX for Long Directory Names (TID #: 2954669) and REVFHRFX.NLM patch for NW 4.11 (TID #: 2952441)Both of these patches should help you with you Office problems, NW4SP9 is a better choice. Good Luck!

FYI. The answer turned out to be to turn off File Caching on the netware client.
