Word 2007 Formatting Issue

By mblessing ·
I am having an annoying problem formatting in Word 2007 SP1. When I select a certain line of text to bold, underline, insert bullets etc. the ENTIRE section's formatting changes as well as other unrelated text in the document. So if I have a large document, you have to go back and search where these unrequested changes have been made. Is there an easy fix? I found that you can highlight the entire text and remove the style/formatting, but then everything is back to the default style/text.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, SP1 plus all other updates.

This machine is used by a Nun so not much junk ever gets on this machine. Thanks for the suggestion. I now installed Office 2007 Service Pack 2, but it still happens.

Thank you, I spent too much time with this anoying problem already, and I'm by no means an expert with Office apps. Office 2007 help, or their online help could not tell me how to turn off this feature, nor do they even acknowledge "automatic update" other than pertaining to Office updates. Thanks again!
