    Word 200x Question

I have several Word documents that appear to be damaged, but following all of the suggestions to repair them in the help documentation could not fix the problems. The pages have headers with graphics/graphical logos, but I cannot seem to be able to modify the headers as this option is grayed out from under the View menu. The main problem however is that the documents hang for about 2-3 minutes when you try to open them — they open very slowly. Any idea how to fix the slow load speed?

taking a wild guess…maybe you did not create this documents. maybe somebody else did and did it in word perfect…maybe the opening is taking long time because it ‘translates’ everytime or maybe because file is just plain old big due to graphics. can you try telling word to open it as word perfect (or experiment with other formats). or maybe try saving as rtf…good luck, ask more if you need…

Saving it to “Word 97-2000 6.0/95– RTF” format and then re-saving to Word 2002 native format fixed the problem. Thanks!

If you can access the text and/or graphics (albeit slow to open) – could you cut & paste (maybe even by sections — not knowing how long the document is…) to a new document?
