I have encountered a problem with Word 97. Assume I copy some text from
Document A to Document B. In Document B, I then edit that text, perhaps
deleting words, typing new ones, and applying character formatting
(typically a superscript for a footnote reference). Finally, when happy with
the text, I apply a style to it.
Sometimes, the first character of the newly styled paragraph will be in a
different character size than that defined by the style for the paragraph
and the problem can only be overcome by using Ctrl-Spacebar. This works, but
of course, clears the character-formatting such as superscript. If I
re-apply the supersrcipt at this stage, all is OK. I assume, therefore, that
the problem lies in a conflict between Style and Character-Formatting, but
cannot see why or how to avoid it happening. I do not want to change my work
method by applying style before editing text. Can you suggest anything?
