Word 97 Lines Blacking Out

By owdjudy ·
When editing a previosly created document in Word 97, some lines will randomly blackout or be replaced by a black bar. When I scroll down and then back to the current insertion point, the line will reappear as it should be. This problem only happensin documents that were previously created, closed and then opened again. Any suggestions?

Could be a video card problem. Try booting the machine in Safe mode and check to see if the problem goes away.

Sound like it could be a video card problem, or even a GDI overflow problem. It could be that you have too much in memory for the computer to handle it. Definately reboot and clear your GDI buffer. If regular mode does not fix the problem, try safe mode.

Can I assume there are a lot of graphics/lines in this document?

There are no graphics lines in the document. The system was just updated to 128MB of RAM and the problem persists.

Is this copy of WORD part of Office97 or stand alone? If it's part of Office97, have you applied the 2 service release updates? I have found these updates solve a wide variety of uncommon issues.
