word crash on print

By wennock ·
Why would word crash while trying to print a doc from word, it prints OK until it gets to 5 then crashes. The page has some graphics headers and footers and text, no differant then any other page.
The resolution was to take of the background printing in the print options.
Does anyone have any ideas

We have tried this on a number of machines on the network all result in the same problem and get resolved the same way
OS = NT4
Word 97 + SR2
Printing on a number of differant HP laser jets
RAM and hard disk space should be OK Over a Gig and 128+

I would suggest looking at your print drivers. HP uses the same engines wherever possible, and there may be a print driver problem that is effecting the word printing. (Essentially, the print driver is a DLL that can be loaded by Word to facilitateprinting.)

If you set the print data type to be EMF instead of raw, you may have a chance (so long as you print to a share, not locally!) This will force the rendering to complete on the server share, which may complete successfully. If the server print spooler crashes, then it is a print driver for sure.
