Word Docs will not open properly

This started several months ago. Every Open File command to load an existing Word 2k doc results in a white page with all commands shown, as if Word is unable to format.

This requires every doc to use 2 stages: 1) open doc and then close; 2) openagain from dropdown file list of recent docs.

Have tried uninstalling Word and reinstall – failed.

Also tried uninstalling Office 2k and reinstall – failed.
