word printing problem

By tl.ford ·
I have a problem with word printing a document once then it wont print again
the pc is running winXP, word is part of Office 2000 the printer and pc is part of a network, the docs will print on other machines, no recent changes have been made on the pc, the docs are on a network share but still will not print when saved to the local HDD and attempted from there. when trying to print the docs the standard printing message box appears briefly then the XP shut down message box.
I have tried deleting and reinstalling the printer and Office

have you checked for spyware or adware?

it can cause a lot of differnet problems on a PC

use Ad_Aware or SpyBots to clean it

good luck

Have you checked the spooler directory and made sure that it is empty (no stuck documents in it)? The default spooler directory is usually found at %SystemRoot%\system32\spool\PRINTERS.

Also, have you completely removed the printer and drivers and reinstalled the printer?

Cheers.

hmm still trying to get used to the interface, the spybot search didnt help but did get rid of some spyware, the print spooler directory was empty I did delete the printer but suspect the drivers were still lurking in the nether regions of xp

what type of printer?
I have had to fix a printer problem repeatedly with HP all in one. HP gave drivers to MS for inclusion in xp, yet xp loses the printer.

the problem ( after fixing monthly for five months ) it sets the printer port up wrong.

this particular all in one is connected through paralell port, yet xp keeps puting it onto that dom4 /dot4 port.
I would make sure that it is connecting on the correct port type for the connection you are using. ( usb, parallel, irda ... )

I had also that kind of problem. It was the driver not functionning with the SP2 for XP. Check the homesite of the printer.

for some reason the printer driver on two seperate pc's got bent out of shape at the same time, in the end I had to delete the printer (again) download the driver (again) installed as a local printer then reinstalled the network printer, that fixed the problem
