Word XP Mail Merge w/ Outlook Contacts

I know how to use Mail Merge in Word and use addresses in my Outlook Contacts folder. The problem is this: another person is trying this on a computer setup to work Offline and when selecting use contacts in Outlook - for some reason the data being pulled from Outlook is the active Inbox not the contacts. Headings are received, from, to, subject.....We reset the default address book to be the contacts folder but this did not help. I'm at a complete loss as to why Word is pulling the Inbox instead of the Contacts folder. Any information would be greatly appriciated on how to correct this.
