Work Experience

By Prakash Venkatesh ·
I have been working with 6 employers in the past 2 years. My work is a contract bases for 6 months to 1 years bases. Now, I am planning to switch to permanent job, but in the interview, people are not considering my work experience because of short contract periods with the employers. But I have worked in realy very tough and challenging projects, and I have obtained certifications in languages, my work experience suits the current vacancy I have applied eventhough interviewer does'nt consider my application. How to handle such situation?

If you are placed by an agency for these contract positions, you might want to point out that they are your long-term employer and have been happy with your work on a variety of projects.

It has been my experience that if the gatekeeper for a position does not consider you to be a good candidate the best thing to do is to apply for another job somewhere else. This is just a part of a philosopy that works for me: "People in this world are not always fair or helpful, thoughtful, etc., but I don't have to be like that." You can't change a person who won't talk to you, but by changing to another person, another opportunity, you might find a more receptive ear.

all the best

I worked on a contract basis for 8 years. When I was interviewing for full time work, it was a major concern of everyone I interviewed with.

The key is to assure them that you have no desire to travel/contract anymore(They are afraid that you'll leave), that I was ready to settle down, and really be sincere in your desire to serve.

It's a major issue that you really have to think hard about.

Hi Prakash:

Think of the reasons as to why these employers are turning you down? The real bottom line reason and not what they say to you. Then you could prepare a strategy to address it and start getting several offers as well. It is all partof a process and if you understand how the system works and sincerely address the concerns they have to offer you a position given that the skills match well.
