Working with Excel 97 files in Excel 95

By fhousley ·
We are behind in the software upgrade department. As a result, many of our vendors send us proposals using Excel 97. We are currently using MS Office 95 (Excel 95 v.7.0). I have downloaded a viewer that allows me to view the file, but not work with it, convert it, or anything else. Is there a workaround/solution/fix?

Thanks,
franne

Here is one workaround. Install excel 97 or 2000 on one machine, much cheaper than upgrading everyone, onpe the file on that machine and then save it as a excel 95 file then the rest of your department can use it.

Another option would be to get the vendors to send the files in a version you can manipulate (i.e. the version you have - all versions of Office allow you to save a file to an earlier version). If these vendors want your business, they should happily comply.
